I. Problem

Under Article 2 of Republic Act No. 7394, or The Consumer Act of The Philippines, it states the following.

a. protection against hazards to health and safety;

b. protection against deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts and practices;

c. provision of information and education to facilitate sound choice and the proper exercise of rights

by the consumer;

It is important for the product to keep up with its advertised weight. If the product is actually less that the advertised weight, then the consumer is paying for more that what he got which is unfair. A person with a condition may be strict with his diet and getting more or less can affect his health which is dangerous. It is also important for the company to make sure that their customers are getting what they paid for or else they can be sued. So are we, the consumers, really getting what we paid for?

II. Hypothesis

If the weight of the product is less than the claimed weight, then the consumers aren’t getting what they paid for

III. Materials

15pcs:  “Ding Dong” mixed nuts (7g ea.) (10 packs should be enough to get reliable results, but the more the better)

15pcs: “Happy” peanuts (6g ea.)

Digital weighing scale (due to the products light weight, digital is recommended for more accurate reading.)

Light Bowl (just a bowl to keep the nuts clean and prevent them from scattering)

IV. Procedure

With all the materials ready

Step 1: Place the bowl on top of the digital scale and set it to 0.

Step 2: Open one pack and measure the nuts inside the bowl.

Step 3: Record the data into a table.

Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3.

 VI. Analysis

Based on the analysis of the table above, “Ding Dong” was able to fulfil its promise 12/15 times or 80% and the other 20% exceeded the advertised weight by 1g. “Happy” on the other hand only fulfilled its promise 8/15 times or 53%. It exceeded 7% of the time and the rest was lower by 1g. Some factors that may have changed the weight could be failure in technology when packing the products, weighing instrument not properly zeroed when weighing, or some nuts were broken down into crumbs which weren’t included in the package.

 

VII. Conclusion

The data shows that products are not always consistent with their advertised weight. Some weigh more, and some weigh less, but this is kept at minimal and none of the products had a difference of more than 1 gram. In order to get the best results, companies can improve their technology to get the most accurate reading for their products. They can also make their machines more delicate to the products so they won’t break down before being packed.

Sakristan Mayor

Dito ang isang larawan kung saan makikita natin ang isang lalaki na isa palang sakristan mayor na hinahawakan pababa ang isang lubid na nakatali sa baywang ng isang mahirap na bata. Hindi natin maaakala na ganoon ang ginagawa ng isang sakristan mayor na ang dapat tingin sa kanila ay banal. Ginagamit niya ang isang walang laban na bata para makuha ang mga yaman na dapat ari ng simbahan. Makikita natin na tuwang-tuwa ang mukha ng  sakristan mayor habang umiiyak ng awa ang mukha ng bata. Wala talagang puso ang sakristan mayor at maipalalagay na ang pera lang pala ang habol niya sa pananatili sa posisyon ng simbahan.

Ito’ng pangyayari na ito ay mula sa kwentong “Noli Me Tangere” na isinulat ng ating pambansang bayani Jose Rizal noong nasa ilalaim tayo ng pamumuno ng mga Espanol. Sa kabanata 15 ng libro na pamagay ay “Ang Mga Sakristan”, ibinintang ng sakristan mayon ang sakristan na ang pangngalan ay “Crispin”: ang nakakabatang kapatid ng isa pang sakristan na ang pangngalan ay “Basilio”. Siya raw ay nagnakaw ng dalawang onsa na naghahalaga ng P32. Si Basilio din ay nadamay sa pagbibintang ito at hindi sila pinauwi hanggang mabalik ang mga onsa.

Nakapaghihinala ang bintang ng sakristan mayor dahil siya lang ang mayhawak ng mga onsa at siya rin ang dapat magdipensa rito. Napakasama ng sakristan mayor dahil kaya pa niyang idamay ang mga inocenteng bata na walang kaalam-alam sa masama niyang ginawa na alam niya. Ikinaladlad niya si Crispin pababa ng hagdan at pinagtatadyakan ito. Napili niyang bintangan si Crispin dahil siya ang masbata sa dalawa at mahihirap silang dalawa. Hindi makapangyarihan ang mga magulang ng dalawa at alam ng sakristan mayor na hindi nila ipagtatangol ang sarili. Kung mayaman ang ibinintang niya, maaari na mabitin pa ang plano niya dahil kayang lumaban ang pamilya ng napagbintang na bata.

Balik sa larawan, makikita natin ang hindi literal na koneksyon ng imahe at ng kwento. Isinisimbolo ng larawan ang pag-gamit ng sakristan mayon kay Crispin upang makuha ang mga yaman ng simbahan. Ang kapangyarihan ng sakristan mayor upang ibaba o itaas ang lubid ay nagsisimbolo na may buong kontrol siya sa buhay ni Crispin. Maari niyang iabuso si Crispin pag ibinaba niya ang lubid at pwede niyang gawin ang buti at itaas ang lubid. Sinisimbolo rin ang kahinaan ng mga bata na ang kanilang buhay ay kayang sirain ng basta-basta lamang.

Kung inaakala niyo na kwento lang ito at hindi totoong nangyari, mali kayo. Maaaring hindi totoo ang mga tauhan ng kwento pero sila ay nagsisimbolo sa mga nangyayari noong panahon. Isunulat ni Jose Rizal ang librong ito upang ipalabas ang lahat ng kasamaan ng mga opisyal sa Pilipinas noong namumuno ang mga Espanol. Naging langit para sa mga corrupt na opisyal ang Pilipinas. Hindi ito naaasikaso ng hari ng Espanya dahil masyado siyang malayo sa Pilipinas at halos lahat ng mga opisyal ay corrupt. Ang mga Padre at banal na tao ay napaka”plastic” na pineperahan lamang ang posisyon. Isinulat rin ang Noli Me Tangere para makakita ang mga bulag na Pilipino sa kaplastikan ng mga opisyal. Pumipila at nagtitipon kasama ang daan-daang tao para lang making sa drama ng padre na hindi ginawa mula  sa puso kundi para sa pera. Namimigay din ang mga tao ng mga donasyon na aabot sa P250 bawat sermon ng Padre.

Sa kasalukuyang panahon, mayroon parin ang mga corrupt na opisyal. Sa gobyerno, madalas magpakita ang mga kandidato na tumutulong sa mga mahihirap tuwing may halalan. Nag”b-brainwash” lang sila dahil sa totoo, wala naman sila talagang kusa tumulong. Gusto lang nila na kumuha ng pera sa gobyerno gamit ang kanilang posisyon. Isa pa ang mga maaabusong mga pulis. Lagi silang nananakot at ginagamit ang kapangyarihan para makakuha ng pera. Inaaresto nila ang mga tao pero sa huli, pera lang ang kapalit.

Nangyayari din ang pag-gamit sa mga inocenteng bata sa personal na bagay tulad ng pagiging “drug courier”. Alam nila na hindi lalaban ang bata at hindi rin sila sakop sa pagkakakulong kaya nagagawa nila ito. Nag”re-recuit” din minsan ang mga terrorista. Ginagawa silang gerero dahil hindi sila babarilin ng mga sundalo.

Ang ipinapakita ko dito ang totohanan na marami ang corrupt na may kapangyarihan at marami rin ang bata na naaabuso dahil sa kanilang pagiging inocente at mahina.

What is the Design Cycle you ask? It is a step by step guide to help you achieve decent projects and assessments. It wants to help students in their school activities to be organize and make their tasks easier.

Here are the steps of the Design cycle.

Step 1: Investigate

The student first must understand the problem and it’s importance. Why should I solve this? How can I relate this to my life? The student will come up with questions to guide him throughout the project. The student must also state what he / she is going to do. 

Step 2: Design

The student must gather a pile of possible designs for the project. Each design must have it’s reasons and history. The student will then pick one to use.

Step 3: Plan 

The student will create a step by step plan as proof of their plannings. The student must then ask their teacher for their go signal.

Step 4: Create

Here is the stage where the student will follow the plan made.

Step 5: Evaluate

Ask yourself Am I satisfied with my work? Can i Improve on it? Did I make a mistake?

SOP #2

This SOP was different because now we know who they are. We now move on to a next level of interacting with them. We told stories, played with clay, ate spam with pandesal, and talked about their favorite things.
I learned that I can actually make kids laugh and happy. I always thought that I’m not good around children. I also learned about the good within me.
I found it hard to deal with people’s problem. Some of the children were rowdy and I didn’t know how to deal with it. I might hurt them if I correct them, and I am encouraging him to do it when I ignore him.
I feel so blessed after the SOP. That I have a good family, and that I have a good education to teach me what is good.

SOP 3

This was our last SOP meeting. Unlike the other meeting, this would me the most memorable one for me because it was the meeting when I realized that this is the last time I would ever see my pals again. I tried to exert extra effort in interacting with the kids and I tried to make use of all the time I had with them. I learned about myself that I am capable of having fun in a not materialistic perspective. I found it hard to make use of the best in me, because I am not used to interacting with kids, so I am unfamiliar with their likes. I found a new perspective of making people happy. I know what it feels to make children happy even by just being present with them.

 

Reflecting on S.O.P.

As we reached our destination, we faced some minor problems, because we saw another group of students there. I thought that the two groups accidentally picked the same place but we just gathered together for an orientation. The other group soon left and we stayed in the area. We had to wait for the kids to arrive later than we expected. So we had about just a little over an hour to hang out with the kids.

During the orientation, I got to learn more about their organization. It wasn’t what I first expected it to be. They are very productive and successful because of the many things they do to help kids like sending them to schools and college like Ateneo, La salle, and UP. The girl who oriented us talked for 30 minutes straight about what their organization does.

When we finally met the kids, I got scared because their parents came along. I was afraid that I couldn’t satisfy their kids and waste their time. My partner didn’t really seem okay during that day, because she was sleepy. She slept during the activity, but later on was active when we brought them Mc’ Donalds. 

At the end of the day, I realized that I actually enjoyed being with the kids. I obtained this new perspective where I enjoyed something I didn’t think I would before. I enjoyed and felt great because I knew that the kids enjoyed and I did an act of magis by sacrificing a Saturday to be with them.
